Potenza can be reached by car from the two main routes, by following Tyrrhenian and Adriatic highways:
- From Rome, continue towards Naples/Salerno, heading for the A3 Salerno-Reggio Calabria motorway. At Sicignano degli Alburni, take the RA5 Sicignano-Potenza bypass towards Potenza, then follow the SS407 Basentana (Metaponto-Taranto);
- From the A14 Bologna-Taranto, at Foggia, take the route to Candela (direction A16 Naples-Bari). At Candela, take the SS 658 Potenza-Melfi towards Potenza.
Potenza can also be reached from:
- From Taranto via the SS 106 Jonica towards Metaponto, take the SS 407 towards Salerno/Potenza;
- From Bari via the SS 96 to Altamura, then continue to Potenza (via Gravina/Tolve).
| By Plane
The most convenient airport serving Potenza is the new Salerno - Costa d'Amalfi Airport (SCA), located about 80 km away, which offers several national and European routes. Alternatively, there are the international airports of Naples-Capodichino (NAP), approximately 160 km away, and the international airport of Rome-Fiumicino (FCO), about 380 km away. From these airports, it is possible to reach Potenza by bus and train, either directly or with transfers.

- From Naples/Salerno to Potenza, there are several daily options available, including Regional, InterCity, and FrecciaRossa trains;
- From Northern Italy/Rome to Potenza, there are several FrecciaRossa trains with a change in Naples or Salerno (Freccialink or Regional trains);
- From the Adriatic line/Foggia and from Taranto, there are several Regional/InterCity trains available daily.
